David Tennant in the world premiere of The Pillowman, originating the role of Katurian Katurian Katurian.
This is absolutely one of my all time favorite plays. I’d known that David originated the role of Katurian for a while, but I’d never fully appreciated how perfect he was for this role. In those photos, his posture, his thin frame, the look of both terror and pride in his eyes as he recounts his stories verbatim for the officers completely hits the nail on the head. There’s another picture that I couldn’t find a good copy of that shows him, insanely bug-eyed, telling a scary story to his brother in the jail cell. He looks pretty spooky. I just wish I could have seen it. I bet he played perfectly into the frenetic conversation between the officers. There’s a coolness to Katurian that slowly breaks down toward adrenaline and I can watch him, in my minds eye, nailing that transition.
I expected to like Doctor Who.
I expected to accrue a certain fondness for one David Tennant.
But I never expected to be awed by his acting ability in a SciFi television show.
I legitimately don’t understand his genius.
He’s so fucking intelligent.
I read these interviews with him and I am simply floored by his words, by his ability to consider things complexly.
It literally makes me want to run around punching things.
How can someone be this good at their job?????
